(EDIT: As we know, the above hasn't happened. Keep on believing.)
I've been listening to a lot of soundtrack music lately, mostly games. So ignoring movies for now and without further ado:
MY TOP 10 VIDEO GAME SOUNDTRACKS:
10: Assassin's Creed 2: Venice Rooftops. I love this track even though I don't love AC. Or even like it, really. Great music, though.
9: Far Cry 3 - Main Theme. Do you know the definition of a powerful and haunting theme?
8: Dynasty Warriors 4 - Avenging Battle. Flashback! A cheesy heroic march with huge nostalgic value for me. Even in modern DW games, I often flip the default track off in favor of this one.
7: Castlevania - Vampire Killer & Wicked Child (tie). Speaking of cheese and flashbacks, here we have my two favorite themes from classic Castlevania games. I linked modern versions, but there are lots to choose from, right back to 8-bit bleeping.
6: Ninety-Nine Nights - Spiral Maze. The game is barely adequate even for a mindless hack-n-slash, but I love this track, which really kicks in about halfway through.
5: Dark Souls - Daughters of Chaos. Having a great day? Ha, Dark Souls can ruin that for you even faster than its bosses can kill you! This is absolutely the saddest, most desolate piece of soundtrack music I've ever heard. I love it.
4: Crysis 2 - Main Menu Theme. Magnificent and eerie. Really got me psyched to play. Too bad the game was a total let-down.
3: Outland - The End of All Things. An indie platformer with standout music. This isn't my favorite version of this piece, but it's the only one on Youtube, and it's still great.
2: Mass Effect 2 - Suicide Mission. IMO, simply one of the most rousing pieces of soundtrack ever.
1: Skyrim - Main Theme. Aaaand my favorite piece of soundtrack music. I love both the Skyrim version and the much more delicate Morrowind version. But most of all, I love Lindsay Stirling and Peter Hollens' interpretation, marking one of the very few times I've ever preferred a remake to the original.
So there it is. Because I could only go to 10, a few of my fave tracks, from games such as F.E.A.R., Dark Void, and Silent Hill 3, got screwed over. While Dark Void may just to settle for a lifetime of regret and alcoholism, will the other two have a chance to shine in next week's Top 10 Favorite Horror Properties? We shall see!
And don't forget to tell me your fave pieces of video game music below!
